Oh boy,oh boy, oh boy. My husband has named this ice cream the best ice cream he has ever had. Big words huh? Them are some fighting’ words. I made this after all of my Key Lime Pie with Chocolate Ice Cream was devoured. Now I heard that that ice cream was the best too..so I am totally confused.
Nutella is a serious downfall of mine. It is a staple in the pantry. Have you seen the commercials stating it is nutritious for breakfast??? I almost spit water through my nose when I saw that. I mean have you looked at the fat content on the stuff? Not diet food folks. Does that stop me from slathering it ALLLLL over a banana??? No, surely it does not.
Don’t forget to buy yourself an ice-cream maker. This is the one I use. You will get many many many pounds of cellulite usage out of it!
Nutella-Banana-Peanut Butter Ice Cream |
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 vanilla bean pod
- 5 egg yolks
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons vodka
- 1 ripe banana, chopped into small chucks
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup Nutella
- Put a large sauce pan on the stove.
- Split the vanilla bean pod in half and scrape the beans out and place the pod and the beans in the pot.
- Add the whole milk and heavy cream.
- Over medium heat, heat the mixture until little bubbles start to form around the edges of the pot, but it is not at a boil.
- Remove from heat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks until they start to lighten a bit(this takes a few minutes with vigorous whisking).
- Gradually add the sugar while still whisking.
- CAREFULLY start to add some of the hot milk into the egg mixture.
- Do this by taking about 1/4 cup of the hot milk mixture at a time and slowly adding it to the egg mixture while whisking. Do it slowly or you will have scrambled eggs!
- Continue to incorporate the milk into the eggs until about half of it is mixed in.
- Pour the tempered egg mixture into the pot on the stove with the remaining milk.
- Cook on low heat until the mixture is thickened and the temperature is 170(egg safety).
- Pour it into a bowl and allow to sit a room temperature until it is no longer steaming.
- Stir in vanilla and vodka
- Cover tightly and place into the refrigerator overnight.
- Remove from fridge and remove the split vanilla bean pod.
- Pour into ice cream maker and follow manufactures directions.
- A few minutes before the ice cream is done, add the Nutella and peanut butter by the spoonful.
- Add the banana. Continue in the ice cream maker for another minute or so.
- Enjoy
The vodka imparts no flavor. This is just to keep the ice cream from totally freezing like a rock after you put it in the freezer. It also helps it soften up a little faster when you remove it from the freezer…just a little trick I learned.
I second all your oh boys! I must get me an ice cream maker stat!
That’s funny my ice cream maker also adds pounds of cellulite. This will be in my ice cream maker and on my thighs soon. Thx!
seriously Leslie? You can post these this early in the morning 🙂 Now all I want is ice cream!!
i just made some ice cream too.
never heard of the vodka trick–i love it though. i hate to wait about 15 minutes b4 scooping into mine.

you might want to start watermarking your photos; i STILL get a ton of theft. unreal.

I just posted a recipe for roasted banana ice cream, and now I wish I’d seen this first! Why didn’t I add Nutella and PB? Next time I suppose!
Divine icecream, looks gorgeous.
Yum! This sounds and looks amazing! Neat trick about the vodka!
Sheesh, you’re killin’ me here, Lady! Not a thing to this that I wouldn’t like!
Now this is a way to cool down in this incredible heat we have been having! I wish I had a scoop right now! 🙂
Nutella is the greatest thing since ice cream 🙂
I always want to cry in the summer when everyone is eating ice cream and I wallow in my sorrow…because my body doesn’t handle ice cream well at all. BUT I sure do love it and steal a few bites of it once and a while! This one sounds awesome!
That ice cream looks so decadent and delicious!
oh yes. i have made nutella ice cream, peanut butter ice cream, and banana pudding ice cream…you’ve combined all three essentially. BRILLIANT and i can’t wait to try!
Wowzie, Wowzie, Woo, Woo! That looks unbelievable! My husband would jump tall buildings to have that ice-cream!
Gorgeous ice cream!! I really need to get my method down…I have a Cuisinart Ice Cream maker and I’ve used it a few times, but haven’t churned out anything fabulous yet.
Yum, Yum! I have that same ice cream maker – must make this recipe soon!!! I’ve never heard of the vodka trick either, but going to give it a try.
YUMMY!!! I just made Rocky Road in mine a few nights ago but this might have to be next! I love ice cream but thighs don’t!
OMGosh!!!! Nutella?!!!?!!! I LOVE the stuff, but definitely not healthly.
I do slather it on almost everything myself. 🙂
This ice cream looks soooo awesome! I will try and get the ingredients so I can make it this weekend.
I have the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker , LOVE it!! It does make some pretty tasty yogurts, when I’m in my healthy mode. Which, by the way, isn’t too often! LOL!!
Thanks for the tip on the vodka, never heard of that, will be adding to my ice cream from now on.
Nutella is one of my biggest weaknesses! I love it with a spoon in the jar 🙂
Thanks for killing my dreams that I could lose weight eating Nutella..geez. 😉
Your husband’s name for this ice cream is perfect. At least from the looks of it. 🙂
All of my favorites in one ice cream!
Wow, I bet these strong flavors are perfect together in an ice cream, I’ll have to try it!
Holy yum, Batman!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah! Your hubby’s got that one right!
Yes please, this sounds like the best flavor combo ever!
Seriously looks like a winner to me!
it’s posts like these that really make me wish we were neighbors. SO YUMMY!
Oh my heavens Leslie!! All I can say is amazing! Really…wow! Wish I could have a bowl right now. No wonder your husband thinks this is the best ice cream around….it surely sounds like it would be out of this world!
LOVE nutella, can’t believe I’ve never had it in combination with peanut butter!
Wow! I so wish I had a big BIG bowl of this right now. Nicely done lady!
Wow! Finding this recipe could be seriously damaging to my health 🙂 I picturing myself eating a gallon of this followed by a pound of bacon to offset the sweet…lol Gotta make soon!
Oh neat tip on the vodka and yes Nutella is my kryptonite:-)
First time here. I love your blog!!! I am also a mother and I can relate to your posts. I think I’ll try the nutella ice cream— =)
This looks INSANE. I, too, love Nutella too much for my own good (and balk at those “breakfast” commercials). But mmmmmm….Nutella, bananas, peanut butter…my favorite things, I think I have to make this TONIGHT! Absolutely genius.
Will skip the vodka though, that’s really interesting, because I have the opposite problem- my ice cream never gets that hard (or hard at all)….
oh, MY!!
Love it! It pretty much combines all my favorite food 🙂
Nutella and Peanut Butter….Oh, boy is right. This sounds incredible.
I can’t tell you how excited I am to make this recipe. My daughter is obsessed with Nutella….to the point where she finds creative ways to have it at breakfast, lunch and dinner! She’s going to go crazy for the ice cream. My eye brows did raise a bit regarding the vodka so thank you for the explanation. I recently posted my favorite brownie recipe which included Khalua…. thanks for sharing.
You can’t go wrong with that!
This looks amazing! I love peanut butter and nutella and never really thought to have them together! 🙂
I love how you don’t need an ice cream maker!
This looks like the most amazing ice cream evah!!!
just saw this on stumble, how on earth did I miss it……looks wonderful, pass me a bowl, please 🙂
Why did I not think of this?!?!? YUM!

Around My Family Table
Hello,
I am doing an end of summer ice cream round up on my own blog, All Day I Dream About Food, and would love to include this recipe. I would use one of your images, and link back to you, but I wouldn’t be posting the recipe directly. If you would like to be a part of it, please email me at carketch29 (at) yahoo (dot) com.
Thanks,
Carolyn
Have to admit I’ve just spent way to much time reading through your posts/recipes. Yum!! And I seriously think I’m gonna have to try this and your peanut butter nutella potato chip panini!!
