Valentines Day. Do you like it? Me..I’m on the fence.
Maybe back in High School when the boys were romantic, it was a cutsie and stuff.
But I have come to the realization the Valentines day is a Hallmark Day. I mean unless your man is Uber romantic, it will probably be just another day…..sigh. I think once you have kids, like everything else, the holiday becomes about them.
But we can still be a hopeless romantic and make some heart shaped Jello, right?
It’s cute and the kids liked to help.
Jello and kids kinda go hand in hand.
I got the idea of the multi colored Jello from the old school Jello Mosaic Dessert Bars
But what fun is it just cutting the jello into cubes? Let’s make hearts!!!!
Below is that it looks like before its final 2 hour chill.
As you can see, I used a small heart cookie cutter to cut my firmed red jello and arranged them in a 9 x 13 pan, then poured the sweetened condensed mixture over the top.
And once the firm, you invert the pan and cut them out.
Cute, huh?
It’s super easy to do!
Valentines Jello Hearts |
- 4 (3oz.) boxes Strawberry Jello
- 2 envelopes Knox Unflavored Gelatin
- 5 1/2 cups boiling water, divided
- 1 can (14oz.) Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1/2 cup cold Water
- Spray a 9 x 13 pan with non stick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, add the 4 packages of Strawberry Jello.
- Mix in 4 cups boiling water and stir for about 2 minutes, or until dissolved.
- Pour into the prepared pan and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until firm.
- In a medium bowl add the 1/2 cup cold water and sprinkle the gelatin over the top, let stand for 1 minute.
- Stir in 1 1/2 cups boiling water and sweetened condensed milk, mix well and allow to cool.
- Remove the firm red jello from the fridge and invert onto a cutting board.
- Re-spray the same 9 x 13 pan with non stick spray.
- With a heart cookie cutter, cut hearts out of the jello. Take care to cut them as close together as possible to reduce waste.
- Arrange the hearts in the pan.
- Pour milk mixture over the hearts and place in the fridge for 2 hours until firm.
- Remove and cut into squares.

I’m not much of a Valentine’s gal, either. I always tell Alan not to buy me flowers b/c I think they’re such a waste of money. But a nice dinner out? Now you’re talking!

These look delicious! I had to pin it on the CraftBliss Red Valentine Bliss Board on Pinterest and link back to you.
You are Brilliant! love this idea! I can think of a bunch of ways to make this fun for the kids all year round! My family is dairy free but I just made a panna cotta with coconut milk and agar with a jello layer of fruit juice and agar. thanks for sharing your creativity!
be careful not to do this too far in advance. Mine bled into the white.
How far in advance did you make them? Mine only lasted a day and a half. 🙂
By lasted..I mean they were all eaten in a day!
Does the Jello get firm enough to cut without gelatin? I would have thought we would need to add knox to the red jello as well. I want to make these for my child’s class tomorrow, please respond 🙂
Thanks so much for your question.
I have only made the recipe as written. But no, I would not leave out the Knox in the white step, it would not firm up at all.
The red(hearts) firm up just fine.
I am sure all the kids will just adore them!
Love this jello idea! My kids would be thrilled!
I’m with you on the Valentines thing. I definitely do not want to go out to dinner on that day, and I think it’s completely arbitrary and has nothing whatsoever to do with my relationship with my husband. We normally try to have a fun family dinner at home, and eat some kind of red dessert. (I’m considering red velvet whoopie pies this year!) That being said, I do kind of hope he gives me something! 😉
These look amazing! So pretty! I will have to try them out! Pinned for sure!
These are so striking. I love how vibrant the colors are and how simple the recipe is to replicate. Thanks for sharing and have a sweet Valentine’ s Day.
too cute. the grandgirls would love these!!
I live in a small town in Brazil and can’t seem to find the non stick spray anywhere. is there anything else I could substitute it for?
Hugs from Brazil.
Danielle, great question. you can always use the Reyonlds Non Stick foil. but if you can’t find that, your last option would be rub a VERY small amount of shortening on your pan.
